The Politics of History: Advancing Civil Rights Through the Booker T. Washington Birthplace Memorial and Industrial Trade School In-Person
Join the Gainsboro Branch Library and Dr. Sara Evers as we examine the history and social implications of the Booker T. Washington Birthplace Memorial and Industrial Trade School. We will explore how the founders of the memorial used the life of Booker T. Washington to advance political, economic, and social aims for African Americans. We will also share a collection of newly uncovered photographs of the memorial which document the rich history of the memorial and trade school.
Dr. Sara Evers is an Assistant Professor of Teacher Education at Ferrum College and specializes in how history is communicated in school and public life.
